Carolyn Mollen
Chief Financial Officer, Sherman Fairchild Foundation
Carolyn Mollen is the chief financial officer at the Sherman Fairchild Foundation (SFF), where she oversees the foundation’s finance functions. She brings extensive expertise in nonprofit finance, accounting, and operations, with a strong focus on financial reporting, budgeting, and organizational effectiveness.
Prior to joining SFF, Carolyn served as Vice President for Finance & Administration and Treasurer at Resources for the Future (RFF), where she oversaw finance, technology, building services, and human resources, ensuring the organization operated efficiently in support of its mission. She was previously the chief financial officer at Independent Sector, the leadership network for nonprofits, foundations, and corporations committed to advancing the common good. Earlier in her career, Carolyn was a manager in the outsourcing department at CliftonLarsonAllen LLP, where she gained broad experience with a wide variety of nonprofit organizations.
Carolyn is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) Not-for-Profit Advisory Council and previously served on the AICPA’s Not-for-Profit Expert Panel. An active member of the Greater Washington Society of CPAs (GWSCPA), she has held several leadership roles and currently co-chairs the CFO/Controller Roundtable. She has also served as a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) Not-for-Profit Advisory Committee.
In addition to her professional commitments, Carolyn is deeply engaged in her community. She serves as Treasurer for Girls Who Hike Virginia and as a board member of OurStoryBridge. Carolyn earned her B.A. from the College of William & Mary, a Certificate in Accounting from the University of Virginia, and a Master of Public Administration from George Mason University. She is a licensed CPA in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
