John Crawford is a Chicago-based partner in the EY Exempt Organization Tax Services practice where he provides tax planning and consultation, as well as tax compliance services, to all types of tax-exempt entities.

John advises exempt clients on a variety of issues, including governance, executive compensation and benefits matters, applications for tax-exempt status, private benefit, inurement and intermediate sanctions concerns, and unrelated business income tax. He also advises exempt organizations regarding organizational structuring and planning, use of for-profit subsidiaries, supporting organization qualification and compliance, joint venture structuring, and other affiliations and relationship tax issues.

John holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and a Master of Accountancy from the University of Missouri. He also received a Juris Doctor with a Tax Certificate from the University of Missouri School of Law. He is a certified public accountant and a member of the bar.

John is a member of and active in several professional associations, including the American Bar Association, the American Health Lawyers Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the TE/GE Council, and the Chicago Bar Association. He is also a member of the AICPA Technical Resource Panel for Exempt Organizations.

Before joining EY, John practiced at the national law firm where he was a partner in its nonprofit organizations practice. He frequently writes and speaks on issues affecting exempt organizations.
