Phil Wedemeyer has extensive experience in the auditing of financial statements and governance of public companies and in the regulation of auditors of those companies. He currently serves as a director and chair of the audit committee of Atwood Oceanics, Inc. (ATW: NYSE) and as a director and member of the audit committee of Willbros Group (WG: NYSE). He also serves on the board of a private company and of a non-profit organization. Phil also serves as a member of the Audit Quality Advisory Council of Deloitte & Touche LLP. Wedemeyer retired in 2011 as a partner in the National Professional Standards Group of Grant Thornton LLP. In that role, he served as member of that firm's National Public Policy Committee and its U.S. Risk Management Committee. During his tenure at Grant Thornton, he also served as a member of the AICPA's Auditing Standards Board and of the Standards Working Group of the Global Public Policy Committee. Prior to joining Grant, Wedemeyer was a member of the staff of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board from 2003 to 2007 with positions of responsibility (Director of the Office of Research and Analysis and Deputy Director of the Department of Registration and Inspections) for research and risk analysis, development of inspection policy and quality control. Wedemeyer joined the Houston office of Arthur Andersen & Co. in 1971 and was admitted to the partnership in 1980. He retired from that firm in 2002 at the time it ceased the practice of public accounting. During his tenure with that firm, he was responsible for audits of the financial statements of a wide variety of both public and private companies, participated in the development of audit methodology, firm policy and training and managed global industry competence in the engineering and construction and manufacturing industries. He received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Baylor University in 1971. He is a licensed CPA in Texas and is a member of the AICPA, TSCPA, Houston Society of CPAs, National Association of Corporate Directors and the Financial Executives Institute.
