The Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act (UPMIFA) is the law of the land in most jurisdictions in the United States as it relates to organizations that are required to administer donor-restricted endowment funds. Even though the law has been in place for more than a decade, many not-for-profit organizations are struggling with both the legal and accounting aspects of these UPMIFA rules. Please join us for this session as we break down the core principles of prudent management of endowment funds including investing and spending strategies. We will also cover specific requirements for presentation, disclosure, and net asset classification as required by U.S. GAAP.
Learning Objectives:
Analyze the core principles of UPMIFA and related U.S. GAAP as it applies to their donor-restricted endowment funds
Determine appropriate investing and spending policies that are UPMIFA compliance and design adequate controls and policies in response
