Form 990 Common Mistakes (REPEAT of #15)

Date
June 22, 2012

The redesigned Form 990 has multiple areas that confound or contain
unanticipated challenges. For example, the disparate definitions for similar
terms in use on Schedule L, Part IV (Business Transactions with Interested
Persons) vs. core form Part VI, Lines 1 and 2 (Independence and Relationships)
and Schedule R (Related Organizations) are commonly overlooked. This session
will focus on the problem areas in the 990 and case studies will be used to:
• Highlight the sometimes contradictory transparency demands faced by filers
• Emphasize the disparate definitions that need be respected in preparing the
Form’s various parts and schedules
• Provide practical guidance for handling data investigation and preparing
especially sensitive areas of the return
