Trey Knapp CPA

Chief Financial Officer, Sewell Automotive Companies

Trey Knapp has worked for the Sewell Automotive Companies for fifteen years and currently serves as Chief Financial Officer. Trey joined Sewell in 2009, and prior to that, worked at Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP (now FORVIS), focusing on dealership audit, taxation, and consulting, for ten years. A significant portion of Trey's time is invested in bridging dealership operations with financial reporting, in a way that builds trusting relationships and partnerships between these two critically important teams. To that extent, Trey also teaches accounting courses for Sewell's non-accounting managers. In 2019, Trey temporarily put aside his accounting and finance responsibilities, and served a four-month rotation as Pre-owned Sales Manager at Sewell Lexus Dallas.

Trey is passionate about learning, mentoring, operational excellence, and most of all, automobiles. Trey is an active member of the Dallas chapter of Financial Executives International (FEI) and serves on the board of directors for the Texas Association of Blind Athletes, First United Methodist Church of Colleyville, Southlake Carroll Band Boosters, and the Carroll Education Foundation. On numerous occasions Trey has returned to his alma mater, the University of Texas at Arlington, to guest-lecture various Masters-level Financial Analytics courses. Trey has been highlighted by both the FEI Dallas Member Spotlight and the FORVIS Alumni Spotlight.  In 2021, Trey was awarded CFO of the Year by the Dallas Business Journal, which he deems the pinnacle honor of his career thus far.

Trey, his wife Amy, and their son Elijah, live in Southlake, Texas. The Knapp family has welcomed two exchange students to live in their home to attend Carroll Senior High School. Trey loves cooking, especially grilling and baking. His family enjoys taking road trips to small Texas towns to find hidden-gem, family-owned restaurants and Texas historical sites.
