Thomas R. Ireland is a Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Missouri at St. Louis, where he taught economics from 1972 to 2006. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University in 1964 and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Virginia in 1968. He began working as an economic expert for attorneys in the fall of 1974 and has been involved in cases in more than half of the 50 states. He has testified in deposition or at trial approximately 20 times per year and has had approximately 70 open case files at any one time. Approximately 40% of those files are for cases in which he has been retained by plaintiff attorneys and 60% of those files are cases for cases in which he has been retained by defense attorneys. He has written, co-written, edited, or co-edited 12 books and more than 150 articles or chapters in books. He is a past president of the American Academy of Economic and Financial Experts and the American Rehabilitation Economics Association and a past vice-president of the National Association of Forensic Economics. He is currently a review editor for the Journal of Legal Economics.
