Steven M. Kane CPA, CFA

Partner, EY

Steve is a client-serving partner at EY with over 15 years of experience providing audit, accounting, and advisory services to the financial services sector. In addition to his primary role providing accounting advisory services, his responsibilities include that of an audit partner, an engagement quality reviewing partner and a capital markets reviewing partner.

Steve recently completed a rotation in EY’s National Office, where he consulted with clients on technical matters and helped develop the firm’s interpretive guidance on financial instrument and emerging issues. He led the National Office’s efforts on several topics and met with representatives from the SEC, Federal Reserve, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and FASB to discuss practical issues and challenges.

From 2011 through 2013, Steve served as a Practice Fellow at the FASB, where he led the FASB staff efforts on the credit impairment project, the derivatives and hedging project and a number of EITF issues. As it relates to the FASB’s “current expected credit loss” model, Steve led the Board’s initial deliberations on the model, drafted the December 2012 exposure draft for the Board, authored the March 2013 staff FAQ document, performed investor/preparer outreach on the model, and led early-stage redeliberations on the model before returning to EY.

Steve holds the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) and maintains CPA licenses in Ohio and New York. Both his undergraduate and graduate degrees are from the University of Notre Dame. Steve and his wife Shannon now live in Cincinnati with their two boys, Henry (9) and George (3).
