Professor Shawn Novak joined the Senate Finance Committee Republican tax staff last fall when he took sabbatical leave from his faculty position in the Department of Accounting in the College of Business and Economics at Boise State University. Professor Novak helped to launch Boise State’s Master of Science in Accountancy degree program in 1997. He teaches graduate tax courses in that program that include corporate taxation, partnership taxation and tax research.
Professor Novak assists the Finance Committee with many aspects of tax reform but especially those that involve accounting and tax administration. Professor Novak, a Virginia native, received his undergraduate degree in accounting from VA Tech. He went on to earn a Master of Professional Accountancy degree from the University of Texas at Austin and then a Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Houston. Professor Novak is a CPA and his tax career also includes professional experience with Ernst & Whinney in Austin, Texas.
