Ryan M. Spriggs is a Senior Underwriting Consultant out of the Kansas City branch of Old Republic Surety Company (ORSC). He is involved in the managing, underwriting, and marketing of construction surety accounts and branches in ORSC’s Arkansas, Oklahoma, western and central Kansas region. Ryan has been with ORSC Insurance Companies since January of 2023. Please see below for experience. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and a useless but fun minor in German Language from Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ in 2007. He obtained his Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding designation in 2009 and CCIFP in 2012.

Managed 5 offices (SLC, PHX, Dallas, Denver, KC) to build the Southwestern Region construction surety book in 10 states and half of 3 others. Aided in the creation of underwriting operational guidance at corporate level; initiated, developed, and maintained agency relationships across the region; working with the SW team doubled the book in 2 years profitably. Hired & trained new and managed tenured underwriters; engaged in NASBP, CFMA, AICPA and other industry organizations.

Performing thorough financial analysis on 70-80 construction firms spanning Arizona, New Mexico, and southern Nevada markets in order to extend bonding credit profitably. Marketing the southwestern region agency plant, advising contractors on the financial side of their operations, managing internal personnel within EMC, currently training to take over managerial role as my superior transitions into retirement. Analysis includes scrutiny of financial statements spanning compiled to audits, work is progress reports, A/R & A/P aging schedules, tax returns, and organizational structure and culture. Participate in marketing trips to respective territories in the southwestern U.S. Extend bonding credit to contractors whose business models, financial performance, and operational reputation meets underwriting guidelines. Interact with agents with active accounts as well as new submissions in order to generate new business and to avoid potential future losses.

Initially a commercial mortgage analyst reviewing commercial properties, rent structures, and lending institution’s programs in order to aid producers close deals. Position transformed into the firm’s corporate controller. Performed all accounting, bookkeeping, (data input into General Lender, archiving, financial statement creation, payroll (ADP system) and vendor relationships maintenance activities. Streamlined accounts payable procedures in order to reduce late charges and capitalize on interest income. Aided owners in overhaul of cost structure to eliminate unnecessary spending. Performed basic tax research in order to provide owners with information to make tax liability reducing decisions.
