Roy Salter is a Senior Advisor and leader of FTI Consulting, Inc.’s Valuation and Financial Advisory Services group.
Mr. Salter joined FTI concurrent with the acquisition of The Salter Group (TSG) in Dec 2012. TSG was a leading independent financial and strategic advisory firm founded in Jan 2003, providing forecasting, valuation, financial opinions and transaction support in the entertainment and media, life sciences and broader intellectual‐property based industries. Previous to TSG, Mr. Salter was a managing director at Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin between 1988 and 2002 where he established and co‐managed the firm's industry group practice, and pioneered the establishment of analytic methods used throughout the world to evaluate entertainment and media businesses, assets and investments. Previous to Houlihan Lokey Mr. Salter was a Senior Vice President with Wells Fargo Capital Markets and Wells Fargo Bank between 1981 and 1988 where he provided commercial banking products and services focused primarily in the entertainment and media industries.
Since 1988, Mr. Salter has led or overseen the assessment of over 4,000 forecast, valuation and/or transaction support engagements, with a particular focus on entertainment, media and other intellectual property businesses representing combined values in excess of US$150 billion on behalf of, or in conjunction with every Major and Mini‐Major Hollywood Studio and Studio‐Satellite, most major European and Asian film studios and broadcasters, most Major and leading Independent Music Companies, most leading Over The Top and digital platforms, and many others, along with most of the leading global capital market businesses supporting these industry sectors including Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Bank of America, Citibank, Union Bank, Fortress Capital, KKR, Carlyle, Falcon Capital Partners, Dune Entertainment, CalPERS, Canadian Pension Plan, and many others.
Within the music industry Mr. Salter has led or overseen several hundred engagements including projects involving the forecast, valuation and transaction‐support involving the acquisition of Warner Music; the financing and acquisition of EMI; KKR’s acquisition of BMG Music and BMG’s subsequent acquisition of many music assets and businesses including Cherry Lane, Chrysalis, Crosstown, Stage Three and many others; Bugmusic; Concord Music Group; Primary Wave; Sony ATV; Spirit Music; Anthem Music; the Rogers & Hammerstein Organization; Famous Music; Mijak; Marantha! Music; Sanctuary Group; Windswept Music; TMC Music; KIDinaKorner; Raymond‐Braun Media Group (Scooter Braun); CKX; Spotify; SESAC; Elvis Presley Enterprises; Frank Sinatra Enterprises; estate valuations for Michael Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Berry Gordy, and many others.
Mr. Salter is currently on faculty at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) teaching “Introduction to Entertainment & Media Finance” while drafting a text book on the same subject. He previously taught undergraduate and M.B.A. courses at UCLA, Harvard University Business School, Cal‐Tech, the European Media Business School in Spain and California State University at Northridge (CSUN).
Mr. Salter is a Doctoral candidate at Grenoble E’cole de Management in France; holds an M.B.A. from LMU; and a B.S. in Business Administration from CSUN. He is a founder and member of the board of directors for California United Bank; and a founder and board member of Royalty Review Council, LLC; Crunch Digital, LLC; Apotheosis Media Group, LLC; and Good Films, LLC.
