Robert Moncrieff is the Global Insurance International Tax Leader for EY. Robert advises on cross-border structuring, debt financing, and investment transactions for multinational insurance companies and financial institutions. He also specializes in advising reinsurance businesses in Bermuda in respect of their US and European operations, including managing regulatory supervision aspects. Additionally, Robert oversees the provision of tax services in establishing and consolidating Shared Services and Global Delivery Centers for companies in the financial services sector. Robert has also been involved with custody matters and was one of the original team involved in the development of the firm’s Global Withholding Tax Reporter. Most recently, Robert has spearheaded the discussions with financial institutions and certain jurisdictions with respect to the OECD Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) Initiative, including Country-by-Country Reporting and the impact on financial services businesses from the UK’s proposed departure from the European Union. He has also assisted with matters relating to the impact of the EU’s initiatives on certain jurisdictions with significant financial services industries.

Robert has been with Ernst & Young LLP since 1989, working initially in the International Tax Services practice in the London office until 1994, when he joined the UK Tax Desk in New York. He has also established UK Tax Desks in Boston and Chicago and is a frequent speaker in the U.S. on U.K. and insurance tax matters. Robert holds an honours degree in law from the University of London and is a Chartered Accountant (Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) and a Certified Tax Advisor. He is Chairman of the North American branch of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and is a past Director of British American Business.
