Mitch Eitel is co-head of Sullivan & Cromwell’s Financial Services Group and focuses on financial services mergers and acquisitions, securities transactions, private equity investments and bank regulatory and enforcement matters. Mr. Eitel has been recognized widely for his work, including being twice named a “Dealmaker of the Year” by The American Lawyer magazine. He also has been named a “Dealmaker of the Week” by the same publication and was noted as a leading practitioner by The International Who’s Who of Banking Lawyers in 2011 and 2012 . Mr. Eitel’s recognitions also reflect his approach to client service, having been named by BTI Consulting to its Client Service All-Star Team. Mr. Eitel’s recent work has included representations of: AmSouth Bancorp in its merger with Regions Financial; The Bank of New York in its merger with Mellon; Barclays in the acquisition of Lehman Brothers’ brokerage business; ConnectOne Bancorp, Inc. pending merger agreement Center Bancorp, Inc., Citigroup in connection with over $20 billion in equity financings during the financial crisis; Fifth Third Bancorp in the majority sale of Fifth Third Processing Solutions to Advent International; HSBC in the sale of its U.S. card and retail services business to Capital One; JPMorgan Chase in its acquisition of Washington Mutual Bank; and Wachovia Corporation in its proposed sale to Citigroup and completed merger into Wells Fargo & Co. during the financial crisis. Mr. Eitel is a frequent speaker and panelist, particularly in the areas of financial services M&A and private equity transactions. He is a fellow of the American Bar Association as well as legal counsel to the Archeological Institute of America.
