Michael Burke is a partner in the Corporate Practice. Mr. Burke is the immediate past chair of the 25,000- member American Bar Association Section of International Law for the 2012–13 year. He is an editor and co- author of the “Corporate Counsel’s Guide to Doing Business in China”, 3d ed., and is the United States Country Councilor for LAWASIA.
Mr. Burke focuses his practice on cross-border corporate and commercial transactions, including joint ventures, strategic alliances, private equity investments, mergers and acquisitions, distribution and reseller networks, and technology licensing. He also advises clients on compliance with the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, U.S. export controls and economic sanctions programs, and U.S. antiboycott regulations.
Mr. Burke has counseled clients on corporate and commercial transactions in more than 45 jurisdictions. He has extensive experience in China-related direct investments, acquisitions, private equity transactions and technology ventures, both going to China and coming from China. Mr. Burke has authored more than 32 publications focused on doing business in China, is a past co-chair of the ABA Section of International Law’s China Committee, and was selected to be a U.S. delegate to the 2003 Legal Exchange of the U.S.–China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade.
