Luis started brewing back in college. After having a serious discussion with his liver and taste buds, he realized that the fizzy yellow beers he was drinking were no bueno. He started trying new beers and finally discovered craft beer back in 2005. Needless to say, he was hooked. However, as any other broke college student, he couldn’t afford the delicious suds. Hence, he started to homebrew with his roomate as a way to save money and have good brews. From there it grew into a passion and a slight obsession. After spending a few years with a company he helped establish while in college and after spending a few years in the corporate world, Luis decided it was time to establish a brewery in Miami. Inevitably, he brought his dad out of retirement to start the brewery. Wynwood Brewing was founded in 2011 and started production in August of 2013. In it’s short history of ten months Wynwood Brewing has expanded to triple its capacity and grown from two employees to a family of ten. The brands it produces can be found in more than 500 retail locations in the South Florida area. It has received media mentions and notoriety across the state and in national news.
Luis is a graduate of Florida International University with a degree in International Business. He was the winner of the Rising Star award by The Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce. He sits on the Board of the Florida Brewers Guild as its Vice President. Besides beer, Luis enjoys playing basketball, grilling meats in open fire and spending time with his two boys and beautiful wife whom he met while at FIU. Most importantly, he’s involved with several charities in the local community and has committed to giving back all proceeds from the brewery’s tours to the local Wynwood Little League Baseball team; most recently having purchased the teams uniforms.
