Laura J. Phillips is the Vice President, Global Controller & Chief Accounting Officer at Covetrus. She is responsible for global accounting, filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and financial reporting systems. Prior to Covetrus, Laura was Google’s Director of Finance Compliance, with responsibility for Google’s SOX program, statutory reporting, and controllership and regulatory compliance for payments. She was also a member of the Operating Committee of Google’s Privacy and Data Protection Office. Prior to Google, Laura was Vice President, Corporate Controller at Brown-Forman Corporation with responsibility for accounting, reporting, and analysis activities, including filings with the SEC. Before Brown-Forman, Laura was Assistant Corporate Controller of General Motors Company. She played a significant role in GM's application of fresh-start reporting upon emergence from bankruptcy and the subsequent registration of shares for public offering. Before GM, Laura was Deputy Chief Auditor for the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). She was instrumental in developing the PCAOB's standards that implement the internal control audit requirement established by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. Laura began her career with Ernst & Young as an auditor serving a broad range of clients. For four years she was a member of the firm’s National Professional Practice Group and during that time served as a Technical Audit Advisor to the Auditing Standards Board of the AICPA as well as a member of the AICPA Auditing Financial Instruments Task Force. Laura is a graduate of the Executive MBA program at the University of Michigan and completed her undergraduate work at Miami University, majoring in accounting and finance. She is a certified public accountant.
