Kathleen L. DeBruhl is the principal owner of Kathleen L. DeBruhl & Associates, LLC, a healthcare law firm located in New Orleans, Louisiana. Ms. DeBruhl's practice focuses on representation of providers, in particular physicians and their issues. Ms. DeBruhl has exclusive expertise in multiple healthcare areas including general healthcare corporate law and operations; physician practice issues; Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement and appeals; fraud and abuse; mergers and acquisitions; development of ancillary services; and, joint ventures including ambulatory surgery centers, specialty hospitals and, imaging centers. Ms. DeBruhl is also outside counsel to several academic medical centers. Ms. DeBruhl earned her B.A. degree from the University of Binghamton and her J.D. from Benjamin Cardozo School of Law in New York. Ms. DeBruhl is licensed in both New York and Louisiana and is a member of both the Louisiana and New York State Bar Associations, where she is a member of the Louisiana Health Law Section. She is an author of the American Health Lawyer's "Representing Physicians Handbook" (section on Reimbursement of Physician Services) and a co-author of the AMA's Model Service Line Agreement. Ms. DeBruhl is a frequent speaker for many organizations including the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons and most recently, spoke at the annual meeting of the American Medical Association.
