Jon is an Associate Chief Accountant and the debt equity and oil and gas topic leader in the Office of the Chief Accountant at the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission. He leads consultation requests from companies and advises other SEC Divisions and Offices on a variety of novel and complex accounting issues including, debt equity, financial instruments, consolidations, leases, and crypto asset transactions. He has advised the Commission’s staff on accounting implications of certain regulatory rule making projects undertaken by the Commission or its staff. He has also led SEC oversight activities of various FASB standard setting projects and has coordinated efforts with other national securities regulators around the world in response to various IASB’s proposed standards and discussion papers. He has been a regular speaker at various conferences, primarily to the oil and gas industry. Prior to joining the SEC in 2004, Jon was a Manager of Assurance Services at Tanner LLC in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is a CPA and received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in accounting from Utah State University.
