John has more than 20 years of reporting, assurance, compliance, and risk management experience serving large multinational organizations. He works with companies across all industries, including; technology, telecommunications, manufacturing, apparel and footwear, and banking.
John serves as Ernst & Young, LLPs sustainability Practice Leader for Non-Financial Reporting Advisory and Assurance Services. He is also the Practice Leader for the Western US region. John is a CPA and has experience leading engagements and working with those responsible for financial and non-financial reporting including; operations, compliance, sustainability, general counsel, investor relations, supply chain, internal audit, and their operating teams to develop leading edge sustainability programs and reporting processes.
John is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Assurance Services Executive Committee Sustainability Task Force and the AICPA Accounting Standards Board Sustainability Task Force. He is also a member of Society for Corporate Governance’s Environmental and Social Working Group. He has helped develop and apply international standards, frameworks and third-party certification programs and has worked with the Global Reporting Initiative, IIRC, B Corporation, CSA America, and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board.
John has experience assisting companies in developing modelling and forecasting tools to evaluate the quantitative environmental impact of capital expenditure projects. This includes developing forecasting tools to measure the top line revenue, gross margin, and impact on share price of various sustainability goal setting initiatives. These included considerations for material mix, pricing, market share, cost, and economies of scale. He is frequently published on sustainability topics and is often asked to present at conferences, universities, trainings and on webinars.
John also served as a member of the University of Colorado’s Denver Business School Managing for Sustainability Advisory Council, which is a select group of Colorado sustainability professionals whose objective is to discuss current issues and practices in sustainability and how they should be integrated into the MBA and other sustainability education programs. He was also a representative to the Sustainability Outlook Program, a joint project with the Institute for the Future.
