John Carney CPA, CFF

Partner, Baker Hostetler

A former Securities Fraud Chief, Assistant United States Attorney, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Senior Counsel, and Certified Public Accountant at a “Big Four” accounting firm, John Carney is a seasoned advocate and adviser who represents public and private corporations, as well as financial institutions in complex civil, regulatory, and criminal law enforcement investigations and litigation. John advises boards of directors, individual directors and executives, and legal and compliance officers and departments before, during, and after civil and criminal investigations and related litigation. He also guides them in designing, implementing, and overseeing remedial and proactive compliance programs. John regularly advises corporations and boards on governance, disclosure, accounting, and compensation matters. Having litigated for, and against, the U.S. government, he strongly encourages clients to take preemptive governance and remediation measures to mitigate legal and reputational risk in today’s increasingly aggressive law enforcement environment.
