Jim has over 27 years in the employee benefits industry serving middle market and large corporate employers, public entities, foundations and non-profit organizations. In addition to remaining actively involved in client consulting work, as President of CBIZ Employee Benefits Services, Jim overseas the strategic direction of the employee benefits consulting and brokerage business for the company nationally.
In July 2009 Jim and his three partners decided to sell their employee benefits and human resources consulting firm, Egan, Amato & OConnor (EAO Benefits), to CBIZ in order to open the metropolitan New York/New Jersey market for CBIZ Benefits & Insurance.
Prior to forming EAO Benefits in 2004 Jim was Executive Vice President of Bank of Americas employee benefits and commercial insurance division. In this role Jim oversaw the new client development activities nationally across all divisions of the company.
Previously Jim was President of Meeker Sharkey Benefits, an employee benefits brokerage/consulting firm focused on middle market and large employers.
Jim is a frequent speaker on employee benefits issues including the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the development and implementation of high impact Wellness Programs, effective plan design strategies to control costs while still attracting and retaining the best employees, self-insurance and other critical employee benefits topics. This broad industry experience coupled with Jims technical benefits expertise makes him well qualified to address a variety of benefit issues for a wide array of clients.
Away from work Jim is active helping homeless young adults learn how to find and advance in employment through his role on the Covenant House International Board of Directors. Jim is also an active triathlete and has successfully completed two Ironman competitions.
