Ed Emerson serves as Chair of the firm’s Employment and Employee Benefits Practices. He assists employers, including tax-exempt organizations and governmental entities, with respect to qualified and nonqualified retirement plans, welfare and fringe benefit plans, and executive compensation. He advises clients on a broad range of employee benefit issues, including plan administration and compliance, reporting and disclosure requirements, employee communications, benefit claims, the merger or termination of employee benefit plans, and benefit issues arising in connection with acquisitions and divestitures. Ed frequently assists clients with the correction of plan operational errors and other failures in IRS self-correction and voluntary correction programs. He also represents clients before the DOL and IRS in connection with plan audits and determination letter rulings. Ed also regularly advises plan sponsors and fiduciaries on fiduciary issues and compliance and frequently provides fiduciary training programs.
