Brian Burns is a Forvis Mazars LLP partner and member of Forvis Mazars' forensics and valuation practice. He practices in the areas of valuation and forensic accounting, including financial investigations, litigation support, and consulting services. He has been designated as an expert witness or retained as a neutral advisor and qualified to testify by report, deposition and/or trial testimony in federal and state courts or arbitrations across the United States in commercial and divorce matters.

Brian graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Minor in Leadership from Virginia Tech and received a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University. Brian is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the Commonwealth of Virginia and holds the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) and Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) credentials with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He is also certified by the American Society of Appraisers as an Accredited Senior Appraiser in Business Valuation (ASA) and the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA) as a Master Analyst in Financial Forensics (MAFF).

The focus areas of his forensic accounting services include litigation support and consulting services in matters such as shareholder disputes, divorce, breach of contract, breach of warranties, misappropriation of trade secrets, post-acquisition disputes, employment disputes, tortious interference, intellectual property disputes, statutory conspiracy, business interruption claims, employee embezzlement, investment scams and fraud. With respect to his practice in valuation, Brian assists businesses and individuals with valuation services in the areas of litigation and shareholder disputes, divorce, transaction consulting, tax planning and compliance, financial reporting, stock-based compensation, and employee stock ownership plans.

Brian currently Co-Chairs the National Forensic and Valuation Services Conference Planning Committee of the AICPA. He previously served on the Accredited in Business Valuation Credential Committee and the Business Valuation Committee of the AICPA and as President of the Richmond Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers. Brian is a former recipient of the VSCPA's Top Five under 35 Award that annually recognizes five young CPA professionals around Virginia under the age of 35 that demonstrate notable professional achievements, outstanding community involvement and dedication to the CPA profession. Brian was also an honoree under the NACVA 40 under Forty recognition program and the AICPA's Standing Ovation award for exemplary professional achievement in forensic and valuation services.

Brian frequently presents on valuation and forensic accounting to professional and trade organizations, and he has presented at venues such as the AICPA's National Forensic and Valuation Services conference, state CPA society conferences, bar conferences, and nationally presented webinars. Additionally, Brian has authored publications on forensic accounting and valuation topics, and Brian served as a contributing author for the AICPA in the development of resources to assist practitioners in the area of valuation.

He has served clients in a variety of industries including, but not limited to construction, real estate, government contracting, financial and insurance services, healthcare, technology, professional services, food service, dealerships, manufacturing, distribution, and retail.
