Brian Allen

Brian is an audit partner in KPMG’s Audit Quality and Professional Practice Group in New York City where he leads the Firm’s Revenue Recognition Topic Team. Previously, he served global companies in the electronics, software and services industries. He is the Firm’s representative on the AICPA’s Revenue Recognition Working Group and the FASB/IASB Joint Transition Resource Group for Revenue Recognition.

Professional and Industry Experience
■ Brian has 31 years of experience with KPMG and has been resident in Silicon Valley since 1989.
■ Brian has been a nationally designated SEC Reviewing Partner for 17 years, serving such global technology companies as Adobe Systems, CA Technologies, Cadence Design Systems, Liberty Global, Motorola, Symantec and Western Digital.
■ Brian has also served as Professional Practice Partner for the Los Angeles Business Unit and as the Western Area Risk Management Partner consulting with, audit partners, professionals and clients throughout the Pacific coast.
■ Before relocating to Silicon Valley, Brian completed three years of service on the staff of the Division of Corporation Finance at the Securities & Exchange Commission.
■ Brian has also served as the Chief Financial Officer of a public software company, providing him a comprehensive, balanced and practical perspective of issues facing global technology companies.
Publications and Speaking Engagements
■ Brian is a National Instructor within KPMG and frequent presenter to client and industry groups on topics such as revenue recognition, FASB/IASB convergence and income taxes.
■ Brian has been a co-author and contributing author for several recent KPMG publications related to the new revenue recognition standard, accounting under a software-as-a-service model, and differences between U.S. GAAP and IFRS as they relate to global technology companies.
■ Brian was a contributing author of the third edition of KPMG’s publication Software Revenue Recognition.
