Ms. Hanson is the managing partner and founder of Hanson Crawford Crum Family Law Group LLP, a premier family law firm in Silicon Valley and San Francisco. Founded in 1997, the firm has grown under Ms. Hanson’s leadership from two attorneys to twelve and is one of the largest boutique family law firms in Northern California. Ms. Hanson’s practice focuses on high asset dissolution cases involving complex financial issues such as venture capital, hedge funds, private equity, privately held companies, equity compensation, and real estate in Silicon Valley and San Francisco. She has handled divorces involving many of the major venture capital firms in Silicon Valley including Sequoia Capital, Accel Partners, Benchmark Capital, and Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers. She also has experience in divorces involving intellectual property rights including music royalties. Her clients include founders of publicly traded companies, venture capitalists, executives, musicians, lawyers, doctors, or their spouses. Ms. Hanson has represented many high profile people in Silicon Valley and throughout California, and has been successful in achieving resolution while also keeping the matter out of public view. Ms. Hanson brings a “hands-on” practical approach to cases. Because most of her cases involve sophisticated business and legal issues that cross over with other areas of law, Ms. Hanson’s approach is often inter-disciplinary, involving the coordination of outside specialists and experts in areas such as business, tax, estate planning, corporate, charitable vehicles, or intellectual property. Ms. Hanson represents clients through all phases of a case whether it is litigation before private judges, in public courthouses, or through a negotiated settlement. Getting the best negotiated settlement requires specialized advocacy and Ms. Hanson trained in negotiation techniques at the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School. Ms. Hanson has practiced law for 25 years, and regularly presents on family law issues. She is a Certified Family Law Specialist, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She served as President of the Northern California Chapter of AAML in 2007 and is a member of The International Network of Boutique Law Firms. She has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America yearly since 2002, and in 2010 she was named “San Francisco Area Family Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers. In addition to being listed among Northern California’s “Super Lawyers” by the Northern California Super Lawyers publication each year since 2004, she has also been included in the “Top 50 Northern California Female Super Lawyers” and the “Top 100 Northern California Lawyers.” Ms. Hanson regularly presents on family law issues. Ms. Hanson was a visiting scholar at Harvard University from 1984 to 1985, received her BA with Honors in American Studies and Psychology from Wesleyan University in 1986, and obtained her JD from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1990.
