Andrea Freeborough

Andrea Freeboroughis Vice President, Corporate Controller at Kinross Gold Corporation, one of the world's largest gold mining companies. In this role, Andrea is responsible for and leads all external financial reporting, financial accounting compliance, and head office accounting and reporting. She is responsible for the adoption of accounting policies globally, and in this capacity, led the Company's adoption of IFRS effective January 1, 2011. Andrea also consults with other business functions on accounting and reporting matters and has been a key member of deal teams for various transactions. In 2010, Andrea was a member of the deal team for the Company's $7.1B acquisition of Red Back, a deal which won the Canadian Dealmaker Mining Industry award and was the largest deal in Canada last year.
Prior to joining Kinross, Andrea was an Associate Partner at KPMG in Canada where she spent 11 years working primarily in the audit practice. She also spent 2 years in KPMG's International Financial Reporting Group in London as an IFRS specialist leading up to the European adoption of IFRS. In her final few years at KPMG, Andrea focused on assisting clients across various industries with IFRS conversion and led many IFRS initiatives nationally within and outside of the firm.
Andrea is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants' Competency Map Committee.
