Alina Solodchikova is a principal at the firm's Washington National Tax Team, tax controversy group. Alina advises RSM clients on a variety of issues including: IRS examination and IRS appeals matters, penalty and interest abatements, 9100 relief for missed elections, refund and informal refund claims, entity issues (entity classification election and late entity classification elections, EIN retention after merger), international tax controversy issues (FIRPTA, Delinquent International Information Return Submission Procedures, FBAR Delinquent Submission Procedures), IRS filing issues. She also advises on alternative dispute resolution issues such Fast Track Settlements/Mediations, Appeals Settlements and Post Appeals Mediations. Alina also assists clients with IRS account issues and advises on IRS Collection procedures (lien, levy, collection due process hearing).

Alina teaches various tax technical courses and regularly presents at the firm wide and outside the firm Tax Conferences. Alina also develops and publishes firm-wide guidance and educational materials to support RSM professionals in the field offices.

Prior to joining RSM, Alina was an attorney with the IRS, Washington National Chief Counsel's Office, Procedure and Administration, for five and a half years where she was a subject-matter expert on tax controversy and collection issues. Specifically, she provided advice on assessments, liens, levies, collection due process procedures, restitution and refund litigation. While with the Chief Counsel's Office, she also provided advice on Tax Court and federal appellate litigation. Alina also served as lead counsel during her three-year tenure on the Procedure and Administration Tax Court litigation team where she successfully litigated cases before the Tax Court. Prior to joining the Office of Chief Counsel in 2010, she practiced corporate and consumer bankruptcy law, as well as tax law at a boutique Manhattan law firm.

Alina is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Tax Policy and Advocacy Committee, has a Masters of Laws in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center, Masters of Laws in International Law from Hofstra University School of Law, and Juris Doctorate from Far-Eastern Federal University, Vladivostok, Russia.
