
Alfonse Upshaw
Chief Accounting Officer, Kaiser Permanente
Alfonse is Senior Vice President, Corporate Controller & Chief Accounting Officer of Kaiser Foundation Health Plans and Hospitals (Kaiser). In his role, Alfonse oversees Kaiser’s internal and external accounting and reporting, tax services and SOX functions. Alfonse leads the planning and execution of strategic initiatives for Kaiser’s Controller function and provides supervision and guidance for 17 regional / shared services controller departments. Alfonse also leads Kaiser’s Millennial Strategy related to attracting, engaging and retaining millennials in the areas of workforce, as consumers and in care delivery.
Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, Alfonse was an audit partner with Deloitte where he served public and private clients in a variety of industries. During his career with Deloitte, Alfonse advised senior leaders and audit committee members on accounting and internal control matters. Additionally he performed business development and was a technical leader for International Financial Reporting Standards. Alfonse was deployed to Deloitte UK for three years as an SEC and US GAAP expert. Alfonse also served in Deloitte’s National Office Management Development Program in Connecticut for 2 years where worked on a variety of SEC and technical accounting matters.
Alfonse attended the University of California, Berkeley and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration. Alfonse is a Certified Public Accountant, a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a member of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc.
