Adam Brown

Adam is the National Managing Principal of Accounting in BDO USA's professional practice group. He is skilled at working with Fortune 1000 publicly traded companies, those in the middle-market, as well as pre-IPO companies. He advises CFOs, chief accounting officers and controllers on accounting for complex or unusual transactions, including assisting them in responding to comments from the SEC. He communicates effectively with boards of directors and audit committees. Adam also represents BDO before the SEC, the FASB and the AICPA. Adam has spent time working with clients in many industries, such as manufacturing & distribution, real estate, retail & consumer products and financial services. His subject matter expertise includes M&A transactions, consolidations, investments, revenue recognition, financial instruments, capital-raising and stock compensation.
Adam is a current member of the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council (FASAC), who advises the FASB on issues related to financial reporting and disclosure. He has also served a three-year term as a member of FinREC (formerly AcSEC), which is the senior AICPA technical committee that provides guidance on financial reporting matters. FinREC influences the form and content of pronouncements issued by accounting standard setters, such as the FASB and IASB. It also identifies financial accounting issues for which guidance from these bodies is needed.
Adam completed a two-year Professional Accounting Fellowship in the Office of the Chief Accountant (OCA) at the SEC in Washington, DC. During his fellowship, Adam consulted with public companies in the application of financial accounting standards, monitored the development of accounting pronouncements at the FASB and the IASB, participated in the development of the Commission's rule proposals, and authored and presented updates on current OCA initiatives and perspectives at professional seminars.
