Kenneth Bement is director of Financial Reporting, Corporate Accounting and Accounting Research for Raytheon Company (NYSE:RTN). Raytheon, with 2013 sales of $24 billion and 63,000 employees worldwide, is a technology and innovation leader specializing in defense, security and civil markets throughout the world. Raytheon is headquartered in Waltham, Mass. In this role, Bement oversees the company’s SEC reporting, technical accounting, and corporate accounting. He is active in monitoring and participating in the standard-setting activities of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and various industry groups. Prior to joining Raytheon in 2011, Bement was a project manager at FASB. He was the organization’s lead on the joint FASB-IASB Revenue Recognition project. His efforts over nearly five years contributed directly to FASB’s publication of the 2008 Discussion Paper, the 2010 Exposure Draft and the 2011 Exposure Draft on revenue from contracts with customers. Before joining the FASB staff, he was a financial reporting manager at the Thomson Corporation (now Thomson Reuters), where he was responsible for preparing financial statements and related footnote disclosures, researching technical accounting issues and managing cash flow reporting processes for the Thomson Learning business unit. Prior to that, he was a senior accountant at IBM, responsible for the accounting for complex services contracts. Bement is a certified public accountant (CPA), a certified management accountant (CMA) and a certified financial manager (CFM). He has a master’s degree in accounting from the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University.
