Alan Teixeira

Dr Alan Teixeira is Senior Director - Technical Activities at the IFRS Foundation. Alan is responsible for advising the IASB on strategy, including matters related to the adoption and implementation of IFRSs. He also oversees the IASB's research and development programme which feeds technical topics into the IASB work plan.


Alan joined the IASB in 2005 from the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (now known as NZICA), where he was the General Manager of the Standards and Quality Assurance division. One of Alan's roles was to lead the team responsible for advising the NZ FRSB on incorporating IFRSs into New Zealand.


Alan's early career balanced academia with technical and expert witness roles. He was on the faculty of the University of Auckland Business School where he taught in the undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA programmes. His principal research interests focused on the relevance of accounting information. Concurrently, for fifteen years, Alan provided technical support the New Zealand operations of two of the big four accounting firms, including providing technical opinions and partner training.


Alan has had a long association with XBRL, as one of the authors of the first IFRS XBRL Taxonomy and a contributor to the XBRL framework. He has had direct involvement with development of IASB publications on Management Commentary, Business Combinations, Consolidations, Joint Arrangements, Financial Statement Presentation and the Conceptual Framework.
