Sumit Chattopadhyay

North American Risk and Finance Leader, SAS

Sumit leads the Risk and Finance Advisory function in North America at SAS Institute, where he advises clients on digital transformation of their modeling and analytical capabilities, risk and finance processes, including adoption of cloud based technology, big data, machine learning and intelligent decisioning. He is also responsible for client experience and client strategy as well as pre-sales for SAS' North American risk & finance customers.

Prior to SAS, Sumit was at M&T Bank (as the CIO for Risk, Finance, Compliance and Regulatory Technology), and at Bank of America (as Managing Director and Global Head for Margin and Risk Technology for Prime Brokerage and Flow Trading, in Sales and Trading). Prior to that, he was at Merrill Lynch, where he set up a Center of Excellence for Risk Analytics and Algorithmic Trading in Toronto, Canada. He began his career in software development and operations at Algorithmics Inc, now owned by SS&C, where he held several roles - Product Manager for the Buy Side risk, Performance Measurement & Reporting, Director of Technical Consulting, etc.

Throughout his career, Sumit has focused on building, implementing, and operationalizing analytical applications for trading, risk management, finance, profitability, client, and regulatory reporting. He is an expert in decision sciences - using models, algorithms, data, workflow, visualization, and reporting. Sumit has consulted and worked extensively with global clients in Canada, US, Asia, Europe, South Africa and Mexico.

Sumit holds an MBA in Finance from the University of New Brunswick, Canada, an MS in Info. & Comp. Sc. from Drexel University, and an MS in Technology Management from Columbia University. He holds a B.Comm (Honors) from the University of Calcutta, India.
