Dustin Hinkel

Senior Associate, Grant Thornton Public Sector

Dustin Hinkel has over 10 years' experience working for and on behalf of local governments throughout the state of Florida. During his career in local government, Dustin has served in many roles, including as County Administrator and Emergency Management Director for Taylor County, Florida. As County Administrator, Dustin led the County through its recovery from the Great Recession by championing policies and legislation to improve the efficiency of the County's services and increase and diversify the County's revenues. As Emergency Management Director, Dustin led the County's Emergency Response Team in its response and recovery from Hurricane Hermine, Tropical Storms Andrea and Debby, the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, and several local emergencies and events. Before joining Grant Thornton, Dustin served as a Senior Project Manager for a Florida based emergency management consulting firm. In this role, Dustin worked on behalf of communities throughout the state of Florida assisting them in managing and recovering over $75 million in disaster response and recovery costs through FEMA's Public Assistance Grant Program. He has continued his work with FEMA's Public Assistance Program at Grant Thornton and currently manages a team of 8 grant management specialists in the management of over 80 disaster recovery projects totaling over $100 million in state and federal funding. Dustin supports several private non-profit health systems throughout the country manage and report on use of funds received from DHHS's Provider Relief Fund and FEMA's Public Assistance Grant Program. Dustin is a graduate of the University of South Florida where he received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degree. When he is not working, Dustin enjoys spending time with his family and friends, running, hiking, and playing golf.
