Ms. Smiley has over 9 years of experience within the risk assessment and internal control environment within the federal government. During her time supporting the Immigration and Customs Enforcement component agency, Ms. Smiley gained experience designing, implementing, assessing, and reporting on internal controls around financial reporting not only for the business processes but also for the financial systems. After joining the headquarters office of DHS in 2016, Ms. Smiley has assisted in developing a robust, risk based information technology assurance program that encompasses Federal requirements while also supporting increased control environment maturity and progression for the Department of Homeland Security.
