Ron A. Rhoades JD, CFP®

Director, Financial Planning Program, Western Kentucky University

Ron A. Rhoades, JD, CFP® serves as the Program Director for the Western Kentucky University Financial Planning Program, where he teaches courses in finance, retirement planning, estate planning, and investments. He is also an estate planning and tax attorney (Member, The Florida Bar). He also serves select clients as an investment adviser. Prior to his transition to academia, he previously served as a principal, CCO, and Director of Research for a Florida RIA firm. Ron A. Rhoades served as Reporter for FPA’s Fiduciary Task Force and currently serves on its Public Policy and Regulation Committee. He has served on the National Board of Directors of NAPFA, served as a representative to the Financial Planning Coalition, and as President of its South Region. In 2011 he was named as “Fiduciary of the Year” by The Committee for the Fiduciary Standard for “changing the nature of the fiduciary debate in Washington.” He was named as one of the “Top 25 Most Influential” by Investment Advisor magazine, and was chosen as one of the “Top 30 Most Influential” in NAPFA’s 30-year history. Ron travels to Washington, D.C. several times each year to visit with policy makers on the fiduciary duties of financial planners and investment advisers. He has written hundreds of articles and blog posts, spoken extensively, and has been quoted numerous times in industry and consumer media. Through his ability to combine the perspectives of practitioners, academia, and fiduciary law, Ron has significantly influenced the outcome of various legislative and rule-making initiatives.
