David Samuels

Chief Financial Officer, Dr First, Inc.

David Samuels is an accomplished senior financial executive with more than 25 years of broad-based financial and business experience with publicly traded, venture-backed and privately held businesses, with revenues ranging from pre-revenue to over $1B.  He has successfully completed more than $325M of debt and equity financings, including initial capitalizations and public offerings, and has served as a change agent leading initiatives in M&A, business restructurings, complex financings and operational improvements.  He has extensive experience with technology focused businesses, working with company founders and board members to create and protect shareholder value. 

Mr. Samuels currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer of DrFirst, Inc., a national provider of software (SaaS) solutions, services and electronic medication management platforms for the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries.  Mr. Samuels previously served as the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer of a global provider of diagnostic imaging systems and services, which was acquired by a private equity company.  Mr. Samuels has held CFO roles in a variety of emerging growth technology-driven businesses during the past eighteen years.  He held senior financial leadership positions with respected global services leader HMS Host, formerly Host Marriott Services Corporation (NYSE:HMS) over a ten-year period.  He began his career in the assurance practice of KPMG LLP.   

Mr. Samuels holds an MBA in Finance and Investments from The George Washington University, and a BS in Accounting, magna cum laude, from the University of Connecticut.  He has had additional executive training at The Aspen Institute.  He holds a CPA certificate in the State of Maryland.

Mr. Samuels is a recipient of the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) Greater Washington Technology CFO Award for Community Service, a finalist for CFO of the Year in the Emerging Growth Company category and was named a CFO of the Year by the Washington Business Journal in July 2013.  He is a two-time recipient of SmartCEO’s Executive Management Award.   

Mr. Samuels currently serves on the Board of Governors for the Charles E. Smith Life Communities, one of the largest not-for-profit providers of eldercare services in the United States, and the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement of Greater Washington.  He also serves as an advisory board member to growth companies in the Washington, DC region.

Mr. Samuels has also held leadership roles in the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), the Potomac Officers Club (POC), the National Kidney Foundation, Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, and other philanthropic, professional and community organizations.  He has been a presenter at industry and investment banking conferences and has been featured in a variety of industry and professional publications.
