Mr. Bertsch’s primary professional focus is on business and corporate planning, Federal and international taxation, and estate planning for successful privately held businesses. His experience includes advising clients on sophisticated domestic and international issues designed to reduce operating risks, protect assets, and preserve wealth. He has had comprehensive and unique experience with respect to international tax and corporate concepts for large multinational companies and individuals.

A significant part of his practice involves extensive work with insurance company arrangements and risk retention groups for clients across numerous industries. As part of his insurance practice, he has helped design the corporate structure and formation of micro and large captive insurance companies in domiciles all over the world, in addition to many domestic domiciles. This includes extensive experience designing insurance companies using Series LLC, protected cell, or statutory fund structures. In addition, he has worked with large companies and Association-based captive insurance companies to consult on operating structure, contract design, risk mitigation procedures, reinsurance programs, coordinate U.S tax filings, and outline participation requirements. He has also been hired by several multinational captive insurance management companies to consult on complex tax issues, IRS tax controversy, and to help design their reinsurance and pooling structures.

Mr. Bertsch earned a Bachelor of Sciences in Accounting Degree from Loyola University Chicago and a Juris Doctorate Degree from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Bertsch is a Certified Public Accountant and is a member of the Illinois State and Chicago Bar Associations, and the Illinois Certified Public Accountants Society.
