Stephanie Bowyer CPA, J.D.

Bowyer, D'Alessandro and Associates PC

Stephanie Bowyer graduated from the University of Georgia in 1995 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. Since 2002, she has been practicing as a CPA in Nederland, Colorado. She is currently a shareholder of the accounting firm Bowyer, D’Alessandro and Associates, PC. Her practice is primarily focused in taxation and accounting for small businesses and individuals. Stephanie works under a referral-only business model due to the premise that the best business relationships are based on a personal relationship with the client. This model has created a practice that is supportive of a diverse and interesting clientele. For this reason there is no advertising, web based or print, for Bowyer, D’Alessandro, and Associates, PC.

In 2004 Stephanie became involved in preparing tax returns for entities that were at the time working for medical marijuana legalization in the State of Colorado. This relationship opened the flood gates to clients specifically in the bourgeoning marijuana industry in 2008. As is still true today, during 2008 there was very little guidance on the correct approach to properly interpreting the tax impacts of Section 280E. The lack of clarity in this industry creates the unique opportunity to develop a methodology for preparing tax returns that are subjected to Section 280E, create control systems for a cash business, resolve issues created from a cash business system, and support the understanding of daily decisions and how they relate to tax consequences. The IRS guidance issued in 2014 for tax returns that are subjected to Section 280E was consistent with the approach that she has used to prepare tax returns since 2009. Stephanie is currently and actively involved in assisting clients with the mechanics of bookkeeping and compiling correct financial statements, tax preparation, and audit representation. Having an active role in all of these facets of the business has helped her maintain a current understanding of the challenges to business owners and professionals in the marijuana industry.
