Klaus Placke is the Acting Regional Director for the San Francisco Regional Office of the U.S. Department of Labor, Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA). In this capacity, he manages the Civil Enforcement program and the Outreach, Education and Technical Assistance program. Mr. Placke started with the agency in 1998 as an Investigator where he conducted high profile civil investigations concerning prohibited transactions, self-dealing, and prudence violations of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) as well as criminal investigations involving embezzlement and fraud perpetrated on pension and health plans. During his career with EBSA, he held a variety of management positions including Deputy Regional Director, Associate Regional Director, Supervisory Investigator, and Senior Advisor for Criminal Investigations. Prior to working for EBSA, Mr. Placke’s investigative experience included Medicare and Medicaid fraud, welfare fraud, and child support enforcement. He has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, both from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania.
