Louis S. Weller JD, MPP

Lou Weller is Managing Partner of Weller Partners LLP, Sausalito, California and Director of Stewart Institutional Exchange Services, LLC, where he leads transaction advisory and structuring activities. He was formerly a principal in Deloitte Tax, LLP, from which he retired in 2012, where he served as National Director, Real Estate Transaction Planning and headed the firm’s Like-Kind Exchange Practice group.

Lou has lectured at numerous professional education conferences and programs. He is co-author of the treatise Real Property Exchanges, Third Edition, published by California Continuing Education of the Bar and of more than 40 articles on tax and real estate issues appearing in professional journals, and serves as Real Estate Editor of the Journal of Taxation. For more than 15 consecutive years he has been named one of the Best Tax Lawyers in the United States and in 2012 was named Best Tax Lawyer in San Francisco by Best Lawyers.™

Mr. Weller received a B.A. cum laude in Political Science from Yale University and concurrent J.D. and Masters in Public Policy degrees from University of California, Berkeley. He is past Chair of the Real Estate Committee, American Bar Association Tax Section as well as past Chair of the Taxation Section, Bar Association of San Francisco, the San Francisco Tax Club and of the Federal Taxation of Real Estate Transactions Committee, American Bar Association Real Property, Probate and Trust Section. Lou is an elected Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel and is active in various professional and civic organizations.
