Liza Prossnitz is a Partner in the National SEC Department of BDO USA, LLP. She reviews registration statements and Form 10-Ks for compliance with US GAAP and SEC rules and regulations. Liza designed and wrote BDO’s Practice Aids on Complex Financial Instruments and Debt Modification accounting, two of the technical accounting areas in which she consults with engagement teams.

While at Arthur Andersen in the Professional Standards Group, she rewrote the SEC section of the Firm’s accounting database (ARM) for presentation on the web, kept the SEC section of ARM current, and wrote SEC newsletters.

At BDO, Liza writes/edits the SEC Reporting and SEC Update courses for the AICPA. At Andersen, she wrote two 40-hour interactive web-based SEC Registration and Reporting course. At CCH, Liza authored the book, SEC Disclosures Checklists.

Liza lectures regularly on the fundamentals of SEC accounting and disclosure and is a frequent presenter on complex financial instruments. She is a CPA, a member of the AICPA and the Illinois CPA Society. Liza belongs to the Illinois CPA Society’s Accounting Principles Committee and won the Society’s 2014 Distinguished Service Award.

She holds an M.B.A. from Columbia University and a B.A. from Vassar College. Liza is a member of a great books group, sailor, gourmet cook, avid reader of Shakespeare, frequent traveler to Provence, and mother of two grown daughters when she is not writing SEC materials.
