Rob Choi

Director, Employee Plans, Internal Revenue Service

Robert Choi (Rob) currently serves as the acting Deputy Commissioner of the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division of the IRS in Washington, DC (since January 2018). His permanent position is Director of Employee Plans where he is responsible for ensuring that plan sponsors, individuals and benefits practitioners understand and comply with the tax law governing retirement plans and IRAs. In this role, he oversees approximately 550 employees who are responsible for conducting examinations and other compliance activities, administering the voluntary correction program, reviewing applications for tax-qualified plan status, supporting formal guidance and rulings, and carrying out customer education and outreach efforts. Robert has over 31 years of IRS experience working in Employee Plans, Exempt Organizations, Tax-Exempt Bonds, and the Office of Appeals. He has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree from Pennsylvania State University and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
