George Patterson

George Patterson has more than 25 years experience in Employee Benefits. George was with the IRS for 14 years. His last position with the IRS before becoming a consultant was as the Manager of the Employee Plans Large Case Group, the precursor to the Employee Plans Team Audit program (EPTA).

George was a consultant for over 12 years. As a consultant, he performed several hundred plan administrative and operational reviews of 401(k) plans, profit sharing plans, defined benefit plans, employee stock ownership plans, and 403(b) tax-sheltered annuities. He made numerous submissions to the IRS Voluntary Compliance Program. He represented numerous clients with IRS examinations and EBSA investigations and he’s prepared more than his share of Forms 5500.

George was with Arthur Andersen for over 5 years, but he assures us that he never knew where the shredder was. His last seven years as a consultant was with Benefits Partners, where he not only performed administrative and operational reviews, but he was also the 401(k) Plan Administrator. He has seen plan compliance issues from the IRS’s viewpoint, from a consultants’ viewpoint, and from the plan sponsor’s viewpoint as a plan administrator.

George returned to the IRS in 2009, as the EP Voluntary Compliance Coordinator for the Voluntary Compliance Group located here in Dallas.

George is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Pension Consultant and a Qualified Pension Administrator. He has two Bachelors degrees in Education and General Business, a Masters Degree in History, a Masters of Business Administration, and a Ph.D. in History.

George has spoken at several Southwest Benefits Association Conferences, several meetings of WEB, at several Dallas Pension Society meetings, the Tulsa Chapter of the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants, and other seminars .

He is a member of the Southwest Benefits Association, and the American Society of Plan Administrators and Actuaries (ASPPA).
