Inspector General, U.S. House of Representatives

In 2010, the Honorable Theresa M. Grafenstine was named the Inspector General of the U.S. House of Representatives (House), having been unanimously appointed by the House Speaker, Majority Leader, and Minority Leader. Ms. Grafenstine brings a variety of public service and non-profit experience to the House. Over the past twenty years, she has served in the Inspector General community in both the legislative and executive branches of the Federal Government. As the Inspector General, she is responsible for planning and leading independent, non-partisan audits, advisories, and investigations of the financial and administrative functions of the House.

She is also an active volunteer in support of the information technology, governance, internal auditing, and accounting professions. For example, Ms. Grafenstine is ISACAs incoming 2013-2014 International Vice President; serves as an At-Large Member on the AICPA Governing Council; serves as a Director on the Global Industry Council, a UN-rooted body, to promote the advancement of STEM careers for young women; and provides financial oversight support as an audit committee member for the U.S. Department of Defense OIG and to the Pentagon Federal Credit Union, which has over 1 million members.

Ms. Grafenstine is a licensed Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Government Auditing Professional, Certified Information Systems Auditor, Certified in the Governance of Enterprise Information Technology, Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control, and a Chartered Global Management Accountant. Ms. Grafenstine received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
