Melissa K Hooley CPA, CGMA

Melissa Hooley is a Partner at BDO USA, LLP with a background that includes over 25 years of experience in accounting, auditing, taxation and consulting: specializing in qualified employee benefit plan and welfare plan services. Melissa has provided services to some of the largest pension plans in the Rocky Mountain region.  She has also worked with governmental plans on GASB financial reporting requirements, 11-K SEC filings, health and welfare plans and 403(b) plans on various compliance, filing and reporting matters. Developing good working relationships with clients is one of her top priorities.  She takes the time to understand the nuances of each client's circumstances, company demographics, and employer and employee needs.  She helps them make improvements, address plan qualification issues (identification, correction and resolution procedures with governmental agencies), review Form 5500 filings and conduct due diligence and operational reviews. She successfully advises clients on plan-related matters, including compliance issues, plan design and financial reporting issues.

During her career, Melissa has been active in various AICPA committees (AICPA Women's Initiatives Executive Committee (Former Chair), the AICPA Nominations Committee, a member of the AICPA Council, and the AICPA Employee Benefits Expert Panel and related sub-task forces). She has been a frequent speaker at national AICPA and State Society conferences over the years. Melissa is also a passionate advocate for the advancement of women in the accounting profession.

Melissa received a B.A. in Accounting from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. She holds a CPA license in the State of Colorado, has her CGMA designation, and is a member of the Colorado Society of CPAs, and the AICPA. Melissa's community involvement includes support and work with the American Transplant Foundation, National MS Society, the Davis Phinney Foundation, and Children's International.  Melissa has a daughter thriving in Colorado.
