Deputy Commissioner, Wage & Investment (W&I) Division, Internal Revenue Service

David Alito is the Wage and Investment Division (W&I) Deputy Commissioner. In this role, he assists the W&I Commissioner in the oversight of all W&I organizations. The W&I Division employs approximately 37,000 employees and has responsibility for delivering customer service (including telephone and face-to-face assistance) and tax return processing for all of America's taxpayers as well as pre-refund compliance activities for W&I taxpayers. In addition, the W&I Division support organizations provide oversight of modernization and management of technology, strategic planning and direction, communications, and strategic human capital management, ensuring safety and security and critical infrastructure, formulation and execution of the budget, and advancing equal opportunities for employees.

In his former position, David was the Deputy Director, Accounts Management where he shared in the day-to-day responsibility of providing assistance with tax and account-related inquiries via telephone, correspondence, web, and e-mail. He provided oversight to an organization comprised of more than 160 headquarter employees and over 17,000 field employees located in 25 customer contact centers nationwide.

David began his IRS Career in 1987 as a tax examiner in the Atlanta Service Center. Throughout his career, he has held positions in a variety of Compliance functions, including Director, Filing and Payment Compliance and Director, Collection. And, in the W&I Division, he has served as the Director, Reporting Compliance and the Director, Compliance.

A native of Binghamton, NY, David studied at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science. David is a graduate of the May 2003 IRS Executive Development Program.
