Former Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Leagher & Flom

Fred Goldberg, former IRS chief counsel, IRS commissioner and Department of the Treasury assistant secretary for tax policy, advises clients on complex tax controversy and tax policy matters, including administrative, regulatory and legislative matters. He also serves as co-chair emeritus of Skadden’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee, as well as of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee. Goldberg has practiced tax law in the private sector for more than 35 years. He is currently Of Counsel in the Washington, DC Office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Leagher & Flom.

Goldberg served as Special Assistant to IRS Commissioner Roscoe Eger (1981-83) and prior to graduating from law school he worked as Special Assistant to the Director of Planning & Research, Office of Economic Opportunity (1970).

He also served as staff director of the Kerry-Danforth Entitlements and Tax Reform Commission (1993-94) and as a member of the Kerry-Portman IRS Restructuring Commission (1996-97).

Goldberg has served on many non-profit boards and committees focused on issues of health care, education and wealth building opportunities in underserved communities.
