The main purpose of the presentation will be to show how annuities can best be used in retirement planning. I'll also suggest ways that advisers can help clients evaluate annuity products, particularly in cases where clients have given sales pitches by financial products sales people. In the first part of the presentation, I'll discuss how annuities work in a general sense, and then get into a more detailed discussion of the various types of annuities and their pluses and minuses. I'll then extend the presentation and show specific examples that compare the use of annuities to other retirement strategies, such as taking systematic withdrawals from savings. I'll show examples where annuities offer a good solution as well examples where there may be better alternatives.
