Description

Advising families with members with special needs is one of the most satisfying yet most complicated services a financial provider can provide.  To do so effectively, a financial planner needs to know how public benefits can be used to supplement an individual's other resources.  This session addresses how to counsel a family with a loved one with special needs and addresses the different challenges faced at different stages of that individual's life. Topics covered will include:

  • Components of a comprehensive special needs financial plan
  • Ensuring eligibility for government benefits
  • Decision making around guardianships and alternatives to guardianships
  • Appropriate use of life insurance
  • Utilization of Special Needs Trusts and ABLE Accounts
  • Importance of a Care Guide / Letter of Intent
