AICPA Forensic & Valuation Services Conference 2013

The Importance of Visual Illustration

Nov 11, 2013 11:40am ‐ Nov 11, 2013 12:55pm

Participants will hear from a persuasive communications expert and a forensic accounting professional on the
subject of persuasive visual translation. Forensic accounting practitioners should not wait until trial is imminent to
start thinking of illustrations. From day one, the practitioner can use basic illustration tools to picture data, timelines, parties, organizations and processes. Even though a small percentage of cases go through the trial phase, it is important to start thinking of the visual aspect of your observations and opinions even if you are going to arbitration or mediation. As presentation time approaches, those preliminary illustrations need to be conceptualized, refined, simplified and tailored for the target audience. Highlights include:
• Statistics on the impact of visual displays
• Examples of illustrations — learn the difference between persuasive and informative design
• How to persuade your audience when presenting complicated subject matters through common values/themes
• How to use color as a persuasive tool
